Subject: Simulation of weld distortion using ansys
Iam trying to simulate the weld induced distortions using ansys of a
butt welded flat plate.Having completed the temperature
distributions( using 8 noded brick element for both thermal and
structural) , iam trying to find the distortions using sequential
coupling(reading the temp results to the structural problem.).I find
that the distortions and residual stresses induced are far too low
when compared to actual results.Iam NOT using element birth and death
options.I am using symmetric boundry conditions. what are the time
step size to be used?Pls commnet on the reasons for the faulty results
and how to overcome them using ansys.

Hi,
I have a questio from you can you describe me how you model weld
passes without using element birth and death?

Thanks
