Kitchen Weirdness
From one of the recent threads I discovered some strange habits I have in the kitchen. One of them is keeping a bottle of reconstituted lemon juice in the fridge when I rarely use it. I always buy an bottle when I run out or the current bottle doesn't smell too great. Also out of habit I buy those small baggies that hold just one sandwich. I never use them. I've... more »

Fajita seasoning recipe
Does anyone have a simple recipe for Fajita seasoning. I don't want to use the one sold. The grocery store put it on the meat and re-warp it for me but it's salty even though he put just enough for the meat. Someone once told me to put fresh lemon juice and salt but I want a little more fancy than that.... more »

Grilling Whole BIG Fish?
Okay, so I was at the supermarket and they had whole mahi mahi. They were small for mahi mahi--about 3 1/2 lbs--but still a lot bigger than the whole fish I usually buy; that is, bass or trout usually running no bigger than a bit over a pound each. They were also very will priced. So I bought one. Now... more »

Dinner July 3rd '08
A large, thick sugar cured North Carolina country ham slice (soaked about 10 minutes in cold water to extrude some of the salt) pan fried for a couple of minutes on each side. Creamers (tiny red new potatoes, boiled then tossed in a medium white sauce with lots o' pepper) and steamed pole beans. Oh,... more »

Really OT: Upgrading my gear
I decided to upgrade my mp3 player from a 20Gb iRiver, which did me fine for a few years but no longer has sufficient capacity to hold my entire music collection, from Madame Sarkozy to Coldplay to Namgar and beyond. So after thinking about it for a minute, I decided to buy an 80Gb iPod. I was... more »

Fritatta w/eggbeaters
My husband has high cholesterol, so I thought I would try Aldi's egg substitute in an omelet/fritatta, whatever you consider the following. (The cheese kind of wrecks the cholesterol factor, but what the hell.) 1 medium onion diced 1/2 red pepper, diced 1/2 green pepper, diced 5 oz mushrooms, diced... more »
