What do you wear when turning?
What do you wear when turning? Face shield? saftey glasses? long sleeve shirt? turners smock? Anti vibration gloves? I'm curious... What is really needed. I dont wear a smock but I do always wear a face shield. Randy [link]

AAW: musing about the relevance of belonging. (long)
Tis the season for hurricanes and politics and I'm trying to design and turn a Windbag. Any ideas? I know, I know, look at a mirror, Arch! Meanwhile I'll act the part and muse a little about AAW. zzzzzz! I just got my AAW dues notice, $45.00 per year and a ballot with 'brag sheets' of the six candidates for the Board. I don't know any of the... more »

Turning Morse Tapers
I have spent most of this summer making parts for a Tracker Pipe Organ. So far I have made Stop Knobs for the front of the instrument, handles for the pipe stoppers and Morse tapers for the bottom of the pipes where they fit into the wind chest. Technically the Morse tapers were the most challenging parts. The... more »

Jet 1642 Tailstock Tilt Pivot
I got the idea from Robust Lathe and made a tilt away tailstock pivot for my Jet 1642 lathe. Completely eliminates what Bill Grumbine calls "turner's elbow". Posted pics over on ABPW.

pen finishing
I've been experimenting trying to get a nice gloss. Haven't got it yet! :( What does happen though is that when I apply ca it tends to bridge the gap between the bushing and the blank. Then after I'm done the bushing is slightly stuck to the blank. I pops off easy but leaves a slightly rough edge on the blank. I feel like I should have a set... more »
