Tech Tip du Jour: Pricing
Just for Timmy: [link] PS You owe me a drink for defiling my blog with such a tedious post. And that's saying something. :o)

Why IBM sales critters lead with DB2 and practically ignore IDS unless its an IDS customer...
Ok, To be fair, if a business partner like Ron or Lester or Paul (Art too), IDS becomes a viable option because the BP will tend to lead the sale. In situations where its an IBM sales team lead deal and a database is required, the story gets a bit cloudy. If the customer asks about Oracle, Oracle is presented. Otherwise DB2. If all else fails, then maybe mention IDS.... more »

DB2 vs IDS Getting the word out...
Eric also raises an interesting point. There are programs on how IBM is pushing DB2 and doing dog and pony shows at Universities. There is a lack of programs from IBM on pushing IDS. Well that's not 100% accurate. There is a current dog and pony show that's going to hit Chicago on Oct 1 that recaps the IDS 11.5 release.... more »

The funny thing about numbers is that they're just numbers...
While Eric brings up an excellent point: [link] Its just numbers and its only a guess as to how the market breaks down. But assuming that it is accurate... The comments made by the analyst do show that IBM SWG IM is doing a pretty poor job of getting the word out.... more »

System error occurred in network function
Hello, On a newly installed IDS 11.5 on RHEL 5.2 x86_64, I see the following message in online.log every five minutes: 07:41:31 listener-thread: err = -25580: oserr = -1: errstr = : System error occurred in network function. System error = -1. What could that be? Should I be worried?

XPS to IDS - a positive note for all from the road
As I had mentioned, I've been doing a number of XPS assignments lately. Good news is that these customers are ALL considering moving their XPS environments to IDS (along with doing POC's against other products). Some of the clients have relatively small XPS environments, so IDS in most cases will work fine.... more »

SIS: Keeping it simple, focus on missed opportunities...
Ok, To keep the discussions moving forward, lets talk about a general topic. Missed opportunities. We all know about them. We have all experienced them. Things in life where had we been awake at the wheel, we could have closed a group. The purpose of this discussion isn't to cry over spilled milk, or to lament what could have been. It is to say hey, where did we go wrong and how to avoid the mistakes in the future.... more »

SIS: So this is how IBM trolls newsgroups ?
Gee Splinter, its no wonder you can't trust IBM when they speak: ..."Being a relative newbie to this newsgroup, my impression is that Gumby has always "had a grip"...just not on anything of substantial substance or SIZE. (Wonder what he does with his OTHER hand and 3 fingers)...does anyone wonder if Gumball has any clients? He writes so... more »
