VIOLENT PARTNERS: A BREAKTHROUGH PLAN FOR ENDING THE CYCLE OF ABUSE is
a different kind of survey of abuse: it shows how both partners often
participate in the dynamics of abuse, and provides an 'out' for those
who want to preserve relationships without that violence. Also
included are tips for the men assaulted by women each year, and an
overall response that addresses patterns of violent dynamics. Any
general-interest or health library needs this.

Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart, and why are
there arguments revolving around who is 'right'? Years of research
lends to a survey of how people avoid accepting responsibility, with
chapters studying behaviors and limitations. Carol Tavris is a social
psychologist and works with co-psychologist Elliott Aronson to produce
a hard-hitting analysis in MISTAKES WERE MADE (BUT NOT BY ME): WHY WE
JUSTIFY FOOLISH BELIEFS, BAD DECISIONS AND HURTFUL ACTS.

The use of hypnosis as a medical tool in the field of psychology and
psychiatry predates Sigmund Freud. "Healing Scripts: Using Hypnosis To
Treat Trauma And Stress" by Dr. Marlene Hunter (Certificant and Fellow
of the College of Family Physicians of Canada) draws upon her more
than thirty years experience working with highly dissociative
patients. As a past president of the American Society of clinical
hypnosis, she writes a particular expertise on the subject of
utilizing hypnosis to clinically address acute stress disorders
including pain in all of its forms, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(with sections on denial, hypervigilance and hyper-arousal), acute
stress, sleep disorders, and dissociation disorders (including ego-
strengthening and integration). Of note is the section focused on
helping children suffering from acute stress and trauma. An
impressively informative work, "Healing Scripts" is particularly
recommended reading for students and practitioners of psychiatric
medicine, and a core addition to professional and academic library
Psychology, Psychiatry, and Medical Science instructional reference
collections.

Marie-Louise von Franz: The Classic Jungian and The Classic Jungian
Tradition gathers testimonies of and memories about Dr. Marie-Louise
Von Franz (1915-1998), an expert in the psychological interpretation
of dreams, alchemical texts, and fairy tales, who worked with C.G.
Jung for nearly thirty years. Contributors include Thomas B. Kirsch,
Anne Maguire, James A. Hall, Barbara Davies, and more. In addition to
reflecting upon Von Franz's remarkable life and accomplishments, Marie-
Louise von Franz: The Classical Jungian and The Classic Jungian
Tradition also examines what, precisely is meant by the "classic
Jungian tradition" that Dr. von Franz pursued (and added her own
individual stamp to). A handful of black-and-white photographs
illustrate this reflective text, especially recommended as a
supplement to Jungian psychology collections.
